1.4.2. jewelry
1.4.2. Jewelry is a collaboration between jewelry designer Ann Lawson and clothing designers Josh and Lauren Podoll. The trio came together after Josh bought Lauren one of Ann’s pieces as a gift. 1.4.2 Jewlery incorporates images and text from the Josh Podoll t-shirt line as well as expanding on current obsessions ranging from sea forms, handmade rope, 1960’s army planes, Alchemy and minimalist artist Agnes Martin. All pieces are made in San Francisco by Ann Lawson at her Mission neighborhood studio. In keeping with Ann’s personal philosophy that “Everything Counts” all aspects of 1.4.2 Jewlery are managed to be as low impact on the environment and ethical as possible. She works with reclaimed metal whenever possible, tools and studio space are shared with other artists to maximize resources, low or non toxic processes are utilized, local artists and crafts people are employed for special techniques and casting.

quail
As a native Californian with family roots in Vietnam, Michelle Nguyen, 23 has always paved the way for a different point of view. The concept behind Quail is a direct result of Nguyen’s desire to create beautiful clothes for the fashion forward girl at an affordable price. Mixing a flea market find with one of her ultra-feminine blouses or signature high-wasted skirts is one of the quintessential Quail girl ensembles, and not unlikely one that would be seen on Nguyen herself. Nguyen hopes to continue placing her line in shops that share her belief in providing exceptional clothing for exceptional prices, a challenging fete in that she is insistent upon her clothing being produced solely and completely in the U.S. We love the structure of her clothes and the fabrics used. The crisp lines of the cult fave Minnie Skirt feel fresh this season and the fact that the skirt is reversible makes it not only clever but timeless.

josh podoll
Bay Area based abstract painter Josh Podoll became a fashion designer by accident. In 2003, with a desire to make something less serious than a painting, Josh began a series of humorous drawings to silkscreen on t-shirts as gifts for friends and family. One thing led to another, and by spring of 2004, stores throughout the U.S. and Japan were selling his t-shirts. Josh maintains a commitment to sustainability by employing organic cotton for his tees. Continuing to draw upon the life and style of the artist as his chief inspiration, Josh has developed a contemporary collection of styles as idiosyncratic as the art and artists that inspire them. In addition, humor, derived from a tongue-in-cheek relationship to fashion and trend along with a strong dose of contradiction, continues to be a major theme in the Josh Podoll's work. Other influences are equestrian sports, cartoons, Zen Koans, and antiquated pop culture.

mixie
Mixie is the creation of Shannon Ely-McGregor, a San Francisco FIDM graduate, who now lives in Southern California with her husband and her 11 month old son. Shannon launched Mixie in 2005 with a collection of tanks, t-shirts, and halter dresses in a variety of prints and solid soft, stretchy knits. The line has always been manufactured locally in Southern California. In fact, Shannon started her company literally in her living room. Her dresses are a mix of vintage throwback silhouettes with modern updates. Shannon actually searches the world for vintage roles of fabric and then adds current cuts and detailing to make her signature pieces. We love this line because everything is so comfortable, you can dress it up or down, and Mixie dresses quickly become favorites in your closet. We also love Shannon's use of bold color for summer like this sweet yellow in her famous Shirley Dress.
